On December 6, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Weather modification Office, together with Urumqi Weather Modification Office and Ganquanbao Economic Development Zone Meteorological Disaster Prevention Center, carried out drone fog detection and data collection work in Ganquanbao Economic development Zone (industrial Park). This is also the first time in China that weather modification UAV equipped with cloud particle probe UAV CDP and micro-meteorological element measurement probe MIP participate in haze reduction experiment.
Hangzhou Shallow Sea Technology Co., LTD. (referred to as: Shallow Sea Technology) provided CDP and MIP probes for the first flight of this test, and participated in providing technical support work throughout the process.
After more than 5 months of design, modification, installation and debugging of the mounting device, at 16:00 on the afternoon of December 6, a weather modification UAV equipped with CDP and MIP probes hover-rose from the operation point on the north side of the Ganquanbao Economic Development Area Management Committee office building, and the fog detection and atmospheric data collection work officially began. After more than an hour of flight, the drone successfully arrived over the mission area to collect data and returned smoothly.

The Cloud particle Probe UAV CDP (Cloud Droplet Probe) carried by the weather modification UAV uses the laser meter scattering principle to detect cloud microphysics information, and can obtain atmospheric data such as particle size spectrum information, particle number concentration, median volume diameter, effective diameter and other atmospheric data within 2-50 microns at high altitude in situ. Miniature Inertial Probe (MIP) collects information about atmospheric weather elements such as temperature, relative humidity, air pressure, wind speed, and wind direction, as well as GPS information such as longitude, latitude, altitude, and trajectory.
"We have set up some fog observation instruments on the ground, and this drone detection instrument makes up for our lack of observation of clouds and aerosols in the air. This winter, we will conduct a fog detection test of drones in the Ganquan Fort area according to the weather conditions." Said Li Yuanyuan, senior engineer, deputy director of the weather modification Office of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
With the rapid development of the UAV industry, the lightweight UAV weather probe developed based on the small and medium-sized UAV platform can be used as a new and effective means of high-altitude weather detection, and will play an increasingly important role in the gradual exploration of the field of weather modification. In recent years, climate change and extreme weather disasters occur frequently. Weather modification is an important measure for disaster prevention and reduction. Shallow sea technology will give full play to its own advantages in meteorological science and technology to help the high-quality development of weather modification.
