On April 22, the key research and development task of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, "Fine detection of cloud water resources and research and application of key technologies for artificial water increase", was launched in Urumqi. The project was led by the Urumqi Institute of Desert Meteorology, China Meteorological Administration, with the participation of regional weather Modification Office, Regional Meteorological Observatory, Tsinghua University, Xiamen University and Bazhou Meteorological Bureau.
The project takes Bayanbuluke Alpine area of Tianshan Mountain as the research area. Guided by improving the efficiency of artificial water increase and the demand for water resource security in Xinjiang, the project carries out the air-sky collaborative strengthening experiment in the alpine mountain area, reveals the multi-scale spatiotemporal refinement evolution characteristics of typical precipitation cloud system structure, systematically evaluates the potential of cloud water resources development, and develops high-resolution intelligent grid forecasting products for artificial water increase operations. Research and development of artificial water increase operation command business system and application demonstration, explore new artificial water increase operation paradigm, form a new artificial water increase technology that can be promoted, and lay the foundation for large-scale cloud water resources development and utilization.
For the smooth implementation of the project, microwave radiometer, two-dimensional visual raindrop spectrometer and other detection equipment were set up in Bayanbulak test area, and artificial rain and snow work was carried out to increase the precipitation in the mountain area and increase the amount of water imported into the upper reaches of Kaidu River to alleviate the shortage of water consumption in the downstream. Recently, the microwave radiometer and two-dimensional visual raindrop spectrometer independently developed and produced by Hangzhou Shallow Sea Technology Co., Ltd. for this key special project were installed and commissioned in Bayanbulak test Area and officially put into use, providing data support for artificial rain and snow operations and the development and utilization of cloud water resources.
