On August 5-28, 2018, Sun Yat-Sen University conducted a 23-day scientific investigation of the South China Sea with a total range of 1,190 nautical miles. Shallow Sea Technology provides the Navigating Profile Observing System (UCTD) and the Cable Profiler (MMP). The expedition ship departs from Daya Bay, Huizhou, and goes to the Red Sea area of Shanwei. It sails from the northwest to the southeast and arrives at the designated site. Under the guidance of the shallow sea science and technology engineering team, after repeated debugging, the equipment successfully completed the preparation of the MMP to ensure that the instrument can work normally. After the submarine is officially launched, the UCTD is used for navigation observation. UCTD can generally choose to launch in the following three modes: static profile mode, drag-and-drop (TOW-YO) delivery mode, free delivery mode, and drag-and-drop delivery in this test.

After 11 days, the scientific research ship recovered the submarine, used the MMP long-term sequence to observe the hydrological information of the water body in the inner wave region, and the UCTD observed the turbulent microstructure of the navigation section to study the wave-high incidence area in the northern shelf of the South China Sea. The processes and physical mechanisms of internal wave propagation, fragmentation and dissipation, and the role of internal waves in the effects of material transport and ecological processes have played a crucial role.
